MaestroReviews

Deb and I are artists, painters actually. We go see films as often as once a week. That's right, we go to the theater and sit in a dark room with strangers to see movies. We rarely rent. We like "little" movies, foreign and documentary films. We try to stay away from mainstream and blockbusters whenever possible, but a couple sneak in each year. We seek out the obscure. We try to avoid violent movies, and that really limits our choices, most film makers seem to think violence makes a story interesting.
I try not to give anything away in the reviews, but offer an honest reaction.
We rate them 1~10, 10 being highest.

The Wind Rises

Deb 5     Me 6

An animated feature about the guy who ultimately designed the Japanese ZERO aircraft. This is a great looking movie with (perhaps unwitting) homage to Disney's top animated classics. The story is told well and in beautiful scenes done in a variety of mediums. Some scenes looked to be pastel, others guache, oil or watercolor. It may have all been done on a computer (I don't know), but the feel of these media were artful and convincing. Its only a tick over two hours, but felt long. Pretty good movie, I've heard the hype on the radio and it doesn't meet the level of beauty they proclaim, but it is good looking and interesting.
